Michigan Divorces

Divorce is a process for ending a marriage. The law in Michigan requires that the court find there has been a breakdown of the marital relationship to the extent that the objects of matrimony have been destroyed, and there remains no reasonable likelihood that the marriage can be preserved. Without children, the minimum time period for a divorce is 60 days. With children it is 180 days, though in some circumstances the courts will waive the time period if everyone agrees. A normal divorce takes from six to nine months unless there are some very complicated issues. The outer limit for a divorce is one year from start to finish.
